NEW IDA BOARD VICE-PRESIDENT AND CHAIR OF
NATIONAL CONFERENCE NAMED

Congratulations to Linda Barr, East Valley Director, who was recently named as Vice-President of the Arizona International Dyslexia Association Board. In addition, she has accepted the position of chair for the upcoming National Conference in 2010. Ms. Barr has served as a board member for the past two years and has been instrumental in moving the association forward in Arizona. Membership and board development have grown during this time. According to Barr, "The International Dyslexia Association National Conference scheduled for Phoenix in October 2010 is a major coup for Phoenix. We will be able to showcase our accomplishments in Arizona and raise awareness for the 15% of our population who have some degree of dyslexia. We need to pull our heads out of the sand and do more for these children!" Arizona Literacy & Learning Center; East Valley Literacy is proud to have Linda as our director.

THERAPY SESSIONS AT ALLC EV ARE GROWING!

HELP SPECIFICALLY FOR THOSE WITH DYSLEXIA IS AVAILABLE.

When East Valley Literacy, the satellite for Arizona Literacy & Learning Center, opened a little over a year ago in Gilbert, the hope was to have proven, scientific, research-based therapy available to children, adolescents and adults with dyslexia. Research makes it very clear that if given the correct type of instruction in the major areas of reading (phonological awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension), individuals with dyslexia can and will learn to read. Brain wiring differences mean these individuals should be taught the way they learn, not the way instruction has always been provided. Read more about our therapy/tutoring program.
